Hiya,
My sister is going to Washington DC in a few weeks and I was thinking of getting her to pick me up a rod. Anyone have any idea of an angling shop in that area that would be easy to get to?
I have tried in an american forum but they were not that helpful.
Any ideas ?

I haven't been to this shop, but it's in Arlington, Virginia (6 miles from the White House): www.anglerslie.com/"Authorized dealer for Abel, Sage, Renzetti, Tibor, Winston, Ross, Simms, Scientific Angler, Thomas and Thomas, Galvan, Scott, Teton, St. Croix, William Joseph "

if your sister fishes, note that the Potomac River upsteam of DC is one of the best smallmouth bass streams on the planet

It's pretty safe to assume that their price for Sage, Winston, Scott, rods, etc. will be the same as anywhere else in the U.S.. There will also be sales tax, which was 5% last year. Plus whatever you have to pay your sister to run out to the shop. So, if it were me, I'd just ring them to see if they had the rod I was looking for in stock.

Ali, when this situation comes up, I usually recommend using one of the reputable American mail-order companies and having the rod sent to your sister's hotel via 2-day express.
That saves a ton of hassle because you're not running your sister all over the DC area trying to find a tackle shop and you know if the rod you want is in stock and was shipped. It also eliminates the chance of her picking out the wrong rod and then you unpacking it in the UK and discovering that instead of the 9 foot 5 weight you ordered, you now are the proud owner of a 9 foot 9 weight.
It's also cheaper because you won't have to pay sales tax on mail order.

Depending on what you're looking for brand-wise, Ali, you can try: St. Croix, Loomis, Redington, Diamondback, and good selection of blanks for building. Hook & Hackle: www.hookhack.com/flyrods.htmlSage, Winston, T&T: Dan Bailey's Fly Shop: www.dan-bailey.com/The Mother of All Mail Order. Those with little self-control may wish to avert their eyes: www.cabelas.comOthwise, let me know what you're looking for. Grouse
