Hi. The Michael Evans Video's that come as a set of 3 are good, they start as basic casting, then double haul and then more advanced stuff, I had mine from Fishtec for £19.99 for the 3 Hope this is of some help.

I got hold of a copy of a guy called Henri Mortensen "The Perfect Cast" i think he's a scierra consultant, he advocated using an underhand cast instead of single spey and spiral roll in place of d/s ,im only learning myselfe and am trying the spey casts ,but you should see what that man could do with a rod sinle and double hander, and also the fishing scenes are deadly.

My personal views is that videos are only really of best value if combined with some lessons. I've yet to se what I would call a really good casting video. The Michael Evans stuff is good. However as I say you really need to have a lesson or two. The best way to think of it is like learning to ride a bike. A video could tell you theoretically what you have to do but in practise you have to get on the bike and try. Casting is even harder because you need more guidance to get it right.

Matt You're absolutely right about lessons but videos can do a lot more than you think. When athletes use visualisation techniques in their minds eye the visualise the activity they are about to take on. They rehearse the physical act mentally until it is ingrained. Then when they actually physically do the act, they are almost doing it from memory. It's a bastardised description but watching videos does have a mental rehearsal effect and will improve your actual casting. Get the physics straight in your head and the body will follow.

"Yes, on the forward cast, imagine you are giving someone a jolly good right hook"!! But a right hook's a horizontal motion from right to left If we ever meet, I'll gladly demonstrate it to you ;D
