I've been flyfishing for quite a few years but now realise that I need a lesson or two to sort out my casting style.
Don't get me wrong, I can put out a full line but it's at the expense of a sore wrist after a couple of hours -resulting from poor technique.
Any recommendations as to who i could contact and how much would I be looking to pay for this?
Thanks,
Dougie

The GAIA list is also worth a look here www.gameanglinginstructors.co.uk/members.asp . They always say (perhaps not surprisingly) that an APGAI (or its replacement qualification) qualified instructor is worth looking out.

Hi All
I can only agree with FFC go on their web site put in your location , they will show you who is in your area, there are a lot of people who say they are an instructor, but are not qualified or liecenced.

Dougie. If you can cast a whole line, why on earth do you think you need instruction I know quite a few anglers and very few I have fished with can cast a whole line. C.B

C.B Yes, CB i can cast a whole line but at the expense of a sore wrist! It's my technique that requires attention, nothing to do with achieving distance. I would rather sacrifice yards and have a comfortable casting stroke. It might be something simple and thats why I seek expert tuition. I did injure my wrist playing football when i was a teenager, maybe the case that it is this which is causing my discomfort? We'll see. Dougie

I've been flyfishing for over thirty years and can put out a full line. Needless to say I thought this advice about getting proper instruction I kept reading was not for me, but for mere beginners. However, I had the good fortune to find myself working in Dallas for a week at the back end of last year, where one of the guys took me to the Fort Worth Bass Pro shop. The fly fishing section was offering a ten percent discount on fly gear if you took up the offer of a free fly casting lesson.
Having agreed with the long haired one that I could spend some hard earned cash, I decided to take them up on their offer. Ten percent was not to be sniffed at.
"Ah" said the guy "we have an expert in our midst" pointing at me. Well chuffed, I though as I lashed thirty yards across the car park. "The guy recognises talent", says I to myself. Then he did that thing that Americans have perfected - those of you who work for Americans will know what I mean - called sandwiching. That's where they start off by praising you, cut to the chase and tell you where you've gone wrong, but finish off with some more praise.
Anyway to cut a long story short, it is one of the most productive hours I've ever spent in thirty plus years fishing. I can't cast any farther and I still have a long way to go before I could describe my casting technique as anywhere half approaching perfect, but the difference is astounding. My wife wasn't chuffed at how much money I spent in the shop afterwards, but what would she know?
