The Loughs Agency’s third annual Angling fair
The Loughs Agency will be hosting its third annual Angling fair on the 11th/12th of march, and this year our fair will be bigger and better than ever, with added attractions of our new Aquaria.
The Wild Trout Trust will for the first time in Ireland be showing off their display of a live river.
Also for the first time at our fair will be Darryl Grimason BBC presenter and author, Ad Sweir from Holland author and top Pike angler, Terry Moseley president of the British Disabled Angling Association and Gold medallist.
The Loughs Agency has lined up some of Europe’s top fly dressers among them will be Malcolm Greehalgh, Paul Proctor, Paul Little, Robert Gillespie, Terry Jenner, Peter Kealey, Peter Dunne, Skuli Kristinsson (Iceland), Robert McHaffie, E.J Malone, Frankie McPhillips, Ad Sweir (Holland), Marc Petitjean Switzerland , Stevie Munn.
During the two days at the fair there will be free casting tuition and competitions for all age groups delivered by top instructors (top prizes), visitors at the fair along side free entry get there entered into a free draw.
This year we will again have a team of National Angling Guides and instructors dedicated to the young offering lessons on fly tying, casting and river craft, checking out the bugs that fish feed on.
The fair will also have a number of top stalls offering anything from a modern selection of rods clothing, books, and magazines to antique tackle.
Visitors will get the chance to sample a selection of seafood during the cooking demos by some of Irelands top chefs.

As an event this was pretty poor - best thing is getting the opportunity to talk fishing before the season proper gets underway - worst thing is having to look at those useless Loughs Agency bastards milling around doing what they do best, ie f*** all!

I agree to an extent, i have seen anglers openly prawning the Mourne with no intervention from bailiffs. I also appreciate, due to the location, they may end up chewing a bullet if they take on the wrong person. Its a very difficult job they have. A few of the Sion Mills Bailiffs were very badly assaulted by poachers a few years ago, a lot of them do their best in difficult circumstances, but i do see where you are coming from regarding your comments.

Sorry you did not think it was good , but to see a few of the best fly tyers in the world free of charge is not bad . ie Paul Little, Peter Dunne . pure class . At least the LA did try to put on a show more than DECAL has done

I don't think too many people would pay to watch someone tie flies ,no matter how good they were at tying.DCAL don't put on a show but they do provide value for money angling permits at venues all over the province what am i paying the Loughs Agency licence money for ?The money for the show would have been better spent improving habitat in some of the spawning streams in the LA catchment area.

Last Year LA spent 2 Million on Habitat , And you get about 8000 at the British Fly Fair paying to watch the same fly Tyer's , but i do think both Dcal and LA should be the one , there is a lot of things that go on that is not seen

My problem with the Loughs Agency stems from my experiences dealing with these people. I watched them from Lifford Bridge poncing about on their boat [one guy was openly sun bathing on the front deck] whilst a number of anglers were in full view fishing the wrong side of the bridge. The LA staff at Carlingford are no better. My club has caught them out on a number of occasions telling blatant lies regarding alleged night visits to our rivers. We complained about one individual in particular to the Agency, but they were'nt interested. This same individual could not be contacted by anyone [including his own office] for over a week and no one batted an eyelid! When we did get some LA staff to accompany us on a night patrol of our river they did not have a clue as to its layout, despite [according to them] carrying out regular checks. I also know for a fact that one of their current bailiffs was caught poaching and again nothing was done about this. There is a culture in the LA of doing feck all - I know of guys who used to work for them and left because they could not stand doing nothing day after day. They are a disgrace.
