Joey1 Didn't kill any fish, if I killed all the fish I catch, there wouldn't be any left when you come back home! Regards Paul Thanks mate, you know how to make a guy home sick! ;D What were you using on the dry/nymph combos? Humpies/PTNs? Also is it possible to have a crack at the Chinook on the Paringa with the fly? And how substantial is the fishery down the West Coast these days? By the Sounds of things in Fish and Game, salmon stocks are a litle bit of a mystery. Beautiful fish by the way. LOL, J.

Lol (joey1) Combos were size 10 and 12 Royal wulffs to Bead head PTNs size 14. We intend to fish these Chinook with the fly next year, we only had 5wt rods on this last trip, 9wt rod with fast sinking shooting heads would nail these fish, nice big black marabou or Craig's nightime would do the Job. I think the Salmon fishery is quite healthy, I really think the fishing methods of the 'Southern Man' may not lend themselves to consistent catch rates, we saw one guy trolling for these Salmon and his Gear would have been more suitable to trolling for King Fish in the Bay of Islands! Regards Paul

saw some nice chinooks caught on paringa, but as was said you would have thought they were trawling for marlin, had a walk round a bit of the shore flyfishing moved some browns, but never caught,at one point i had a wee audience (4 guys) who had never seen a guy flyfishing a lake, was a bit disconcerting ,but i really wanted a fish, had to do a running commentary on what i was doing.i think the scottish accent might have had something to do with it, jim or it could have been the hip flask with higland park malt whisky. ;D

they need to learn how to pull wets loch style... I must admit some of the fishing methods back home are a little simple or crude compared to traditional UK loch fishing. J.

Yeah. I fished coleridge last year and tons of boaties pulling jigs and lures, trawling with spinners and harling. Not too many fish caught was the news.
Meanwhile my mate and I chuckled. We had 6 each, wading out and fly fishing. All the fish were in the top feet of water. The boaties were all under them and the petrol motors were scaring the fish.
A good drogue and a 15ft clinker build Irish row boat with a 8hp honda would have been better. Except you can't get a decent boat here of that type.
I sold my 10'6" rod when I got here because it wasn't used. shame.
