It's been a bit quiet on this part for a while so ..... I thought...... lets get the views of those involved or who take part in Competition fishing to let us know why they enjoy it ?. For me it is the camaraderie and friendship. Once the competition is over that's it. I have made so many great friends over the years as a result of the friendships and aquaintances made through competition fishing here and abroad ...even in Scotland ...I'll be seeing a good few of them in a couple of weeks........can't wait. That's what it is all about...doing our best but not at all costs..taking part is just as important as winning. Mind you.. winning is nice too !! Moo Moo HKS

Hi HKS
Couldn't agree with you more. I may have been very lucky so far but I can't remember ever having had a really bad boat partner in any competition. As for river comps I've always found everyone more than helpful, free with their information and sometimes their fly boxes.
Roll on the 14th and where else would you find a competition fished on a trust basis.
Cheers Kenny

Everything!
Starting with the practice, the phone calls/beers the night before, checking the weather, looking at the draw, tackling up, the banter before the start, the first cast, the first pull, the first fish, any other fish, the last fish, giving your partner the flies you just caught the last fish on, the weigh in, more banter and general p1ss taking, the prize giving, the drinking, my pillow the hangover.
Roll on the new season.

I decided to try out comp fly fishing 1 1/2 years back, and was unsure what the atmosphere would be like, but now im a budding comp angler and love the buzz. Every angler should try fishin comps...its A>C>E!

HKS, There's me thinking its the drink for you and falling asleep in the pub I enjoy the buzz at comps, especially internationals as all you are fishing for is a medal for your country, no money prizes or tackle etc... just the pride of your national and all the hard work the teams put into thier preperation. The other comps are good also and as you said meeting others etc.. and having a laugh most of the time Cheers Dave

I agree actually Dave, there is nothing to beat that feeling of pride at an International. The feeling of walking down to the water with your team mates, about to represent your country. That, I think is the ultimate buzz, as you rightly say. There is something special about that particular team being together at that particular time. It's hard to explain, but you are right Dave!
