According to Foxy Scotland won the International with England second. Apparently they won on weight, with England having two more fish. (Lets wait for the outcry ;D) Well done Lads. Foxy will fill in the details later no doubt. ;D ;D ;D ;D

What outcry??? Scotland won fair and square so what's the problem my friend? Chip on the old shoulder? Why would I have a chip on MY shoulder, we won. ;D I was just expecting the usual debate as to whether it should be weight or numbers. I believe an Englishman won the Brown Bowl. Well done to him.

"Debate as to whether it should be weight or number" is NOT an outcry!?
Maybe a bad choice of words!
Apologies for the "chip on the shoulder" comment. It wasn't directed at you personally.

Having just returned from the International at the lake I can confirm that Simon Robinson was first with 12 fish then Derek Barclay of Scotland 2nd then Jim Litster with 9 fish and then John Dunbar with 7 fish for 17lb 10 oz (cracking fish 3 of them alone was 10lb) the other 2 scots in the top 20 was Jock Kettles (11th) and Jeff Lawson (19th).. This was a truly a magnificant team effort and all the boys did themselves proud and fully deserved the gold medal..

Well done to Scotland again! They are definitely the team to beat these days. Fair play to them.
Why is it that Scotland have become so consistent? Is there something in particular, or have they just got into 'winning mood'?
Well done whatever the reasons!

I was extremely proud to have earned my first cap for England in this event.
All 4 countries fielded strong teams and the flavour was for a closely run contest, we were not disappointed. The fish were obviously in the upper 3 feet of the water column but were reluctant to take dries even in the gentle South Westerlies on the practice days, the stockies were very well spread around the lake (an excellent way of stocking in my opinion) so you couldnt rely on finding them from one day to the next. What seemed to be the most productive method was a washing line set up with a Booby on the point and nymphs/Cormorants on the droppers, the fish were just as eager to take the sombre flies as they were the Boobies. The winning margin of just about five pounds was quite a surprise especially as England had 2 more fish for the team total but fair play to Scotland they won it fair and square. I am sure they will claim they targeted the bigger fish and if they found a way of doing this then it worked !. There again it could be that the Scots were lucky ! The English carryovers (sounds like a takeaway) to Lough Leane in South West Ireland in June 2006 were :-
Simon Robinson 12 fish (outstanding performance from what I believe to be the top all rounder in the UK) John Horsey 7 fish Vince Brooks 7 fish Myself, Nick Halstead 7 fish
Special thanks to my boat partner Jeff, and Kenny the boatman, this was a cracking day.
This was a fabulously run , memorable event and the proudest moment in my fly fishing "career" so far. England were well led, well organised and totally dedicated to the team ethic. We ran you close lads and I am sure this healthy , friendly rivalry will continue between our countries for many years.

well said nick.very gracious in defeat.it was great to see the commitment from all the teams.there was no doubt that everybody was up for it.I was boatman for nick dunn ,eng and pat noonan, irl and both men fished their hearts out. the relief on nicks face when he had his 1st fish in the net ,was a joy to behold and as we travelled around the loch getting reports from other english anglers and seeing them catch ,i could see nick was getting more confident ,as he had a right to.and let's not forget how close the irish were ,what a bunch of characters they are.all in all a great competition. and i was so glad to have been there. ;D
