I've used the new Lureflash UV Fritz and it does look amazing, especially under a halogen light, but it does have a very thich core and tends to mask the hook (I've used K175s). What's the best hook to use for this?

I normally use kamasan b160/6 but my son got straightened twice last week on them. i haved asked about and fulling mill short shank specials in a size six seems to be a popular alternative

Skymango,
Have just tied up some blobs on Kamasan B890 Specimen Eyed, a hook generally used for coarse fishing. They have a round bend/wide gape so the chenille dressing does not mask the point. Quite similar to the Partridge Big Mouth Nymph hook but much cheaper. I have landed some fair carp on these hooks in hit and hold situations so I can vouch for their reliability.
Incidentally, what type of nymph would one tie on the Partridge Big Mouth Nymph hook? It's a bit of a meat hook for a nymph.
Regards,
Mugsy

after a quick search, i couldn't find kamasan b890s only b980 specimen eyed. priced at £4.80 for 25 against £3 for 25 big mouth doubles or £2.50 for b160 kamasans would appear to be more expensive. the hooks qouted are used due to them fitting international rules. dont know if the b980/890? would be ok in a big enough size for blobs etc.

Hametied'
I stand corrected. It should of course be Kamasan B980 not B890 and I am surprised they are so expensive; I should have carried out some research before going into print.
I don't know whether or not B980s comply with international rules. The bend of a s4 B980 is roughly the same as a s10 big Mouth Nymph but the B980 is slightly longer over all.
I am sure that one could get a better price on Kamasans somewhere and in any case, they remain a very sharp and strong hook.
Regards,
Mugsy

i prefer the partridge heavy nymph rather than the big mouth.and the b982 is a good hook also.i use both for boobies and blobs.

just found a close up pic of b980 on web. straight eyed. looks better for tying in bulky fritzes and celtic flycraft are selling them at normal price. £2.45 for 25. dont know where previous price came from when searching google. maybe i should have done my research before going to print!!!!!!!!!!!!!
