(Like everywhere else!) the Cumbrian Derwent now has plenty of water and will have enough water to be fishable for at least the next two weeks. I am pleased to report, after occasional algal blooms in the last few years, that it is running clean. The few stale springers have moved up, and some spanking fresh fish have moved in. More should now come in with every day that the river is high enough, this river peaking in September/October. Like last year there do not appear to be many sea trout cf the abundance of 2-3 years ago.

Enough water now for it to be fishable for at least 3 weeks. Plenty of spanking fresh fish.

10 salmon in the last 4 days, but mostly on spinner as it's so high, peaking at 5'. Make that enough water for another 3 weeks+.

Now 41 in the last 10 days, the purplest patch in the 6 years I've had it. I can't go for 2 weeks...... Down at the bottom of the river in the beat just off the tide each of 4 rods caught 20lbers yesterday, so the big fish are on their way.

Seems like your having a good season. Is that true for all the Cumbrian rivers?

You had that right, Malcolm. I had one on on Wednesday for a minute, never properly on. Derek gets only fish of the day & yesterday was the first blank day in over a month........Another 4-5 days & it would be short of water but judging by the cloudbursts we've had in Norfolk today it should get the necessary soon. About 88 for the season to date, of which 53 to the ghillie who is there all the time....

Fished the delightful Derwent over the weekend (Anthony's beat). Lovely beat in classic english countryside. As anticipated in Anthony's last post, you wouldn't have like much less water in it, but for the 3 or 4 rods fishing over the weekend 3 were landed and several lost. And i was rather pleased with returning my first ever english salmon - a coloured cock of around 10lbs!

Cheers Andy! The pool was lower danes (i think that's what it was called) and the fish was taken on a #6 willie gunn. although we saw very few fish, there clearly isn't a shortage of them in hte system.
many thanks for the b&b recommendation - graysonside was superb!
