I'm off fishing on Friday and I'm going to a small still water (about 2 1/2 acres) and I want to try fishing, buzzers. Please could someone give me some help on what I need to do and how I fish these things? Thanks

Im no expert on fishing buzzers, but can give you a tip or two A long leader of about 14ft alows you to get down deep. Put one buzzer on the point and have a dropper halfway up the leader (7ft from fly line). So you are covering more water. Fish them slow. and fish the whole 'semicircle' infront of you, not just out infront. (this aplies to all fishing really) Good luck, dont forget to tell us the result!

Suggest you fish with a light line (#4 or 5) and watch the end of the fly line for takes. Lift the rod if the line does anything it shouldn't. At this time of year small (s12-16) dark buzzers usually work best. Don't foget to fish your buzzers at different depths until you find the fish. As Trout advises, fish them really slowly.
Good Luck.

You don't mention if you are fishing bank or boat. I'm going to assume bank because of the size of the water.
To start with, try and find a spot that has the wind going across you. Ideally left to right if you are right handed. Cast out; now let the drift pull your flies around. Mend the line to slow down the drift and sink the flies a bit more if necessary. If this does not work, then you can think about retrieving before the end of the drift. Make the retrieve ultra slow. I have taken 15 minutes to retrieve one cast before now. Thatsounds like a long time, but if the fish are there, and are on buzzers, you won't make many uninterrupted casts.
I don't try to watch the end of the flyline. I feel you miss too much that way. I watch the line between the rod tip and the water, keeping the tip about 9 inches above the water. Any twitch here, lift into the fish.
Leader length? I would start about 15 foot. Evenly space three buzzers 5 feet apart. Even with the slowest retrieve or drift, the point fly is not going to fish below 5 feet. If I want to fish deeper, I use a fly with a small gold head, usually a Pheasant tail.

I just started buzzer fishing this year, and have had quite a few fish using two buzzers under a bung New Zealand style. I used a 3 foot leader to the bung, which i tied using a size 10 hook and a piece of booby foam. I then tied a nine foot leader direct to the bend of the bung hook with a buzzer on the point and another half way down on the dropper. Remember you are limited to leader length as the bung will not go through the tip eye Have a look at this months TF, there is a small article with a similar rig, as has already been mentioned, the best retrieve is no retrieve! But vary it between slow to static until you get a take. Good luck!!

i fish buzzers alot thers alot of good advice from the above . i find that if you pull the line as though your attempting to strick a match on your backside it speeds up the strike alot faster ;D its a bit like hauling from the hip. :oif that maks any sence to you but it definetly works 4 me

Well I tried it and caught, nothing! The most exciting bit was when, I had left my buzzer out there for a while and thought, right, I'll bring it back in. after a few minutes of a slow retrieve, the rod bent, the heart skipped and I thought, "bloody hell, this is a huge one!" After about 30 seconds of playing the thing, I realised that it was just the buzzer caught on something on the bottom. ;D

sgt, stick with it mate. i fished buzzers for the first time this weekend and absolutely loved it - the fishing was superb. a guy on the bank showed me the ropes which helped a huge amount. essentially he suggested that i / you try and 'target' a fish with a buzzer if you can. essentially, when you spot anything 'fishy' in the water cast just a few feet 'infront' and let the buzzzer drift towards the fish / surface bubbles etc. i promise you, if you dont retrieve too qiuickly, you will get takes. it was so effective for me i wasn't casting to certain fish because they were just too small to bother with (under 3lb) and they were pretty much guaranteed to bite - so we just stalked the bigger shapes in the water. he caught a 10lb rainbow and i had a 7lb. we were using a small olive buzzer with a seven foot, very fine, leader. cast out - wait, let the water 'drift' it - retrieve a tiny fraction - then let it drift again etc.
it was some of the best fishing i have ever experienced. i highly recommend it. don't give up. it felt like 'proper' fly fishing!!

I find that if you retreive the line slowly with your left hand (without your left hand touching the rod) you can feel any takes in you fingers. This enables you feel the slightest pull in the line.

I think rad means dont retrieve the line with your left hand through your right index finger, as in use your left hand only to retrieve the line?
