Just bought two Allcocks "Little Gems" from e-bay.
The first was a little worn and unfortunatly broke on the first outing . The break is in fact pretty minor (cane seesm to split a little) and I am sure that I can get it repaired.
The second is a real find. Looks almost brand new. I shouldn't really fish with it but I belive that rods are for fishing with.
Does anyone have advice on how to get the first rod repaired. I am not a rod builder so would probably have to rely on someone else's expertise. (I paid £30 for the rod so wouldn't want to spend a fortne repairing it)
How do I look after the second rod , does the cane require some extra maintence I am not aware of ?

Get a small needled hypodermic syringe. And get decent wood glue as far in and under the split as you can. Then bind very tight with thick silk or clamp over he split if it is in a thicker part of the rod so that the split is held tight closed while the glue dries. Then remove the thick silk, or take it out of the clamp, rub off the spare glue with very fine sand paper od a glass scraper, then bind in fine white silk, which when varnished will goe near as d**n transparent.
Bingo, rod fixed in a day.

My Grandfather used to keep his cane rod in his hedge ! He was convinced you had to keep cane damp !
