Got up this morning to find the garden shed had been broken into and our four spinning rods and reels were the only things taken. >:(Went to local police station to report it and was told about 20 to 30 sheds had been broken into overnight. Spoke to insurance company about claim and was told altho shed was covered if I don't have receipts or photos of rods may not be able to claim. How long do you keep receipts for as I don't have mine and also a couple of the rods were gifts?

Does your written policy state that you must have reciepts?
To demand receipts for all lost items is an almost impossible burden. If it doesn't say it in writing in the policy, demand the claim be paid.
If it does say it, demand the claim be paid anyway. Then drop that insurance company like a hot rock. God forbid your house is broken into and cleaned out and they demand reciepts for items bought 25 years ago or you're SOL.
As an aside I got some great advice from our insurance agent. Now that digital cameras and camcorders are common as dirt, every darn one of us should go on a home photo-safari. Literally take pictures of every room, every closet, every drawer, and close-ups of the expensive stuff like televisions, electronics, and of course fishing equipment and firearms.
This is a tremendous record should the worst happen to you. The problem is double: Most people cannot possibly make a list of all the stuff they have and make it accurate and the insurance company can always challenge any claim it sees as unreasonable so you'll need proof. How many CD's do you have and what titles? What is the make and model of your television? Much easier to remember if you have photos of every inch of your house.
I now have a CD ROM locked in our fireproof safe with 500 pictures on it. I hope I never need it.
