Things have come to a pretty pass, when paedophiles are being freed from jail earlier, because of their human rights issues. Whilst this interfering bunch of inadequates that we are supposed to respect, and admire, are coming up with this new squeeze on our civil liberties. Yes, you guessed, I am a smoker, and I hold dear my right to do as I please when in the privacy of my own house, or car. It seems that we smokers will now not be allowed to smoke in the car. It is supposed to be a safety matter. If this was the case it would have been done long ago. Yes, this is what we pay these MPs to dream up, and make law. No fixes for the poor, no curtailment of the pure greed that is manifest from the big energy companies, oil companies etc. How much will this cost to enforce? Who will be the mugs who pay for it? Oh, and another bright idea is being mooted around. You cannot carry passengers for two years after you have passed your test! I thought since this government is supposed to be on an energy saving blitz, that the more people in cars, the better for the environment. We will shortly have thousands of cars running to work with one passenger on board. Where is the sense in that? doonicus

The HRA is great for the likes of the Yemen, Iran, Afghanistan, Burma etc...but not much use in the UK.
Of course, we all knew this when Tony Blair was dirtying his pants to get the whole thing pushed through.
It seems the Afghan Hi-jackers had the last laugh.

Well, he goes on freebie holidays, and eh, he goes on freebie holidays, and uses the Queens flight for free of course. Then, of course he has ordered his equivelent of Air Force One, for his use before the Queens, and the Royal family, to take part in ministerial activities?, oh, forgot, it is for freebie holidays again! doonicus

Might as well ban radios and cd players then.. and ban indicators cos you have to think about putting them on, and while they are at it, why not ban thinking when driving.. cos it may distract you!! Still makes a change for our so-called elected MP's to spend time on this instead of thinking of even more ways keep us rabble under control...

All the controls for the above things you mentioned FF are now being located in hands reach to help keep your consentration on the road.
Whilst smoking you have to move your hands around to the ash tray (thats if you use them unlike some prats on the road who chuck them out of the window) and also 'may' have to conten with smoke in the eyes. So if this is not taking away your consentration then why is eating banned? Drinking i can understand unless you have a straw.

Doon, you're waaaay behind the power curve. Welcome to much of North America. Many cities 'ban' smoking in/near "public places" (25 feet from a door). Sooo ... to legal smoke you have to stand in the middle of the street.

oncorhynchusmykis, It will happen here as well, then I will probably get run down by a stressed out smoker, who has just passed his test , has no one to talk to. and having driven 200 miles without a f*g, or a drink, or a bite to eat. He will be fidgeting with the cd, the radio, thinking of a smoke, scratching his nether regions or is so busy looking out for speed cameras, smoke detectors, that he will not see me, until too late. Then I truly will have died for a smoke. As Robert Burns once said, on describing the illustrious leaders of our nation, " Sic a parcel o' rogues in a nation" Really sums this lot up, doesn't it? Thanks for all the inputs lads,
