Consider the Orvis Mid Arbor or Mach reels. Both have plenty of stamina to handle bonefish and more.

Heavy! What are you fishing for, Permit? A 7# is much more suited to Bonefish. Use an 8# if you expect some windy days, but 9# is overkill.

Bloke XL50 Permit 9wt sounds very heavy for bonefish? If you are wading a 7 or 8 rod would be my choice. Fishing 9 and 10 lines in inches deep water will spook the crap out of them. If you out of a skiff fishing deeper water....maybe a 9 but I still fail to see the benefit.
As for reels Tibor, Abel, Old Florida, Sage, Ross Big Game, Danielson/Loop are all good. If money is an issue get a SA Mastery 8/9 off eBay. Vossler are supposed to be pretty good to?

i agree with the line sizes, i used a 6 weight for bones when it was still but had to go up to an 8 when the wind got up! a 9 is too much for bones but good for the permit.

I lost what I reckon was my best bone with a brand new Orvis Mach reel. The handle fell off. Not smooth enough drag either. Lamson Litespeed 3.5 was perfect.

Actually Cloots, I'm a Little disappointed you didn't use some initiative once your reel handle had broken. Did you try jamming and old pencil in one of the drilled out frames holes? What about using one of your fingers - assuming they aren't shaped like pigs tits! ;D
