Hi All Can any body advise on line density for sea fishing, I was thinking of some thing like a slow inter and some thing like a DI 5, would this be ok, or can you recomend what I might need, Also I was thinking of getting a 8# as I would use it for pike as well, it won't be a regular thing so I don't want to go mad

I reckon you've got things pretty much sussed, gear wise! A floating line also has it's uses. That way you'll be covered from the top down.

Hi Gonzo
Thank you for the reply, does it make much difference if you have a long head or short head line, I know you can carry more line with the long head line , but as there will a wind coming of the sea , it would most probalbly be better to shoot line more than cast it.
Ant advise on this subject will be helpfull, hope to try up around Tywyn , Aberdovey and Barmouth areas, when the weather warms up and the trout go off.

Short heads tend to be better for turning over larger flies, they are not compulsory though.
I use Cortland 444sl and SA Mastery saltwater lines as a rule.

I use #8 shooting heads for all my SWFF. Have a floater, slow sinker and a lead link/fast sinker. Cover all my needs that I've come across.
The slow sinker I have is a Snowbee Prestige which is fantastic.

I do like a shooting head set-up for the Hi-D stuff, but find the running line a pain for general use, especially when it's windy - which is alot at the coast!

Hi All. I was at the Fly fair this year, i was talking to a bloke there who fishes with nothing but shooting heads, can't remember his name, was also giving demo's, he was saying that if the thinner runing lines were used into the wind, they don't work very good, but if you have a thicker running line it will go better. I have won a £75 voucher from fishtec for a fish of the month, the grayling that was posted in the photo's section on this site, only trouble was it had to be fishtec stuff, so I will try a 40+ inter and Di5, well they are for nothing Thank you for your help

Depends on what type of running line you use. I've tried a few different types, and most have huge amounts of memory. The best one is almost like a WF running line......this has minimal memory and if kept lubed, out performs the other monofiliment running lines. But to be honest I did have the same problem as you until I got this new running line.

I did have the same problem as you until I got this new running line. Any idea who makes it? I currently use the Scientific Anglers running line - which is basically a level (floating) line. It's about the best I've used over the years, but it does need a good stretch before use. It also knots occasionally, which I find the most annoying. Give me a full line any day! ;D

I've got Guideline SF on my SWFF outfit and that's got loads of memory and gets tangled often, even with a little wind.
But the best one is the blue running line on my salmon outfit. That's Loop custom running line. Almost zero memory and as long as it's kept relatively lubed upm, an excellent running line.
Have you tried Amnesia mono made by Sunset? This is meant to have zero memory.

Wiggy I've a friend who has a Loop (level) line... It's the best running line I've ever seen, I wonder if it's the same?

I hope you got the "expert" model or the "saltwater". The "extreme" of which I have had a few is very weak in the running line and breaks about every 3 months. They do send you a new one then, though Charlie
