Hi all ive only just joined the forum i thought i might be able to help with this one, one nice area i have fly fished for bass was out on the Camel estuary near Hawkers cove near Padstow i was lucky enough to fish with a few members of the Crediton flyfishing club on their annual saltwater flyfishing day out. The water was very shallow and we fished from top of the tide down and as far as the tide would go before it started to make again, out of the 4/5 of us about 9/11 bass were caught considering the off shore wind we didnt do too bad.
I would advise this though... if you are going to use large flies up to 3/0 use a heavy leader i found 12lb maxima will break and wont turn over very well because of size of flies used i fished a short 7ft 18lb clear mono leader and had no trouble after that.. bearing in mind bass are not line shy and have no problem going for the fly.
Just a bit extra for you my set up was a stiff 6/7 9.5 rod with a weight forward intermediate #7 i found the slight extra weight of the inter better than a full foater and will still go out 25 yds with good timing.
cheers Glyn
