I think this is the one you are after.
Dressing
Hook: 8-12 Threads: brown Tag: two turns of gold tinsel Tail: tuft of fluorescent floss (GlowBrite No 11) Body: greeny/olive seal fur Body hackle: Green olive & golden olive mixed Rib: fine oval gold Head hackle: Golden Pheasant yellow rump feather
Hackles are tied thick & over long. A handy Mayfly pattern for emerging insect I am told.

Both are Stan Headley patterns. The dressing Highlander gave is for the Melvin Octopus. MELVIN OCTOPUS Hook: 8-12 Kamasan b420 Threads: brown Tag: two turns of flat gold tinsel Tail: tuft of fluorescent floss (GlowBrite No 11) Body: Golden Olive seals fur Body hackle: Paired Green olive & golden olive. Rib: fine oval gold Head hackle: Golden Pheasant yellow rump feather Here is the standard Octopus OCTOPUS Hook: 8-12 Kamasan b420 Threads: black Body: Golden Olive seals fur (Green Peter Green) Body hackle: Ginger Cock. Rib: fine oval gold Head hackle: Golden Pheasant Red body feather wound. I like a good long head hackle to give a lot of movement. Hope this helps. Gerry

Largest fish I took on Corrib in May 2001 was 4lb 20z on an octopus, the melvin pattern above. I fished it middle on a team of three, with a deer hair red bodied sedge top and a golden invicta on point. I've also taken fish on it in Thornton, Carsington and Foremark. Works very well in a sedge hatch, just let it sink.
