I would start with a damsel on the point and a buzzer or diawl bach on the dropper. Be prepared to pull a few lures through on an intermediate if that doesn't work.

Charlie Cheers Charlie Have you fished there recently,i did give them a ring a month or two back, but they were so negative that i thought b***cks to them . Im getting abit bored with my local water,Although they are willing to help and are happy chappies ,Apart from my local "Halliford Mere" sheephouse is one of the nearest, within driving distance to me, im "heathrow" ;D

Dumpy, I haven't fished there this year as I work near it but live some way away. It's a typical small water and not particularly good value, but convenient for an evening after the office.
Common view is that Haywards Farm is better but I have never been there.

Dumpy, I'm Heathrow area too, and to be quite honest I havent fished Sheepdip, Felix or Haywards in years. They are all small stock ponds, I cannot recall a warm welcome at any of them, and they sure ain't cheap. It doesn't take too much longer to get to Bewl, Grafham, Eyebrook or Farmoor and get far better quality fishing at a better price.

Richard is right, there is much better value at the bigger waters.
The issue is that you need better information on a bigger water - fish location and choice of methods is much broader. When you actually find them and have the method, they are much easier to catch than small water fish IMO. They have seen less flies and generally feed more confidently.
So either check on here for info or find a local to show you round the first couple of trips.

I've been to sheephouse a few times but not for a couple of years. The old scottish guy is such a grumpy bastard. Several times when I have walked into his office/lounge/ashtray to buy a ticket, he's nattering with his mates and they all just go silent and stare towards the door. He has no understanding how to make a visiting fisherman feel welcome. And the fishing is crap too....

It is true it is a weird place - those guys in the lodge are normally armed with high powered air rifles too I've been there and he has been surly as hell but one time I took two novices up and he kitted them out and gave them a casting lesson for free. In my experience the fishing is OK, just a bit too easy when it is catch/kill only. In fact, I've had a few fall back in, by accident of course Charlie

Hi Dumpy,
Just go to Hayward farm, buy a sporting ticket for 2 really good quality rainbows on the main lake and then wonder what youre doing wrong as youre watching big browns tailing on the catch and release lake next to, over and under your fly but not on the end of it!
Some of those fish have been in there several years have big tails and strip loads of line when you hook them. Sadly I cant hook them that often at all.
Sheephouse should be calle Shi**house.
Access is much better at Haywards Farm too.

For a local small water, haywards farm is good. You can fish nearly all of the bank and the quality of the fish is excellent. Mike Stratton, who runs the place, let me share a rod with my son, which was really good as he caught two fit fish. However, for a bit more travelling my choices for a medium water will alsways be Elinor and Ravensthorpe. C&R and top of the water stuff now starting.

Sheepdip is one of the most unwelcoming atmospheres i have ever encountered and felix farm looked really neglected and the fish all had tons of argulus on them and were rake thin! I have also blanked all three times at sheepdip!! Not happy. Agree with you about Halliford dumpy - were you there last friday? I only got the one that day and i am getting a bit bored of it to be honest, its nice but quite limited. Crap day for it though, really sunny and then that storm moved in!? Thinking of taking the trip to farmoor or bewl myself....go to the midlands a lot myself as thats where me julie is from - they are spoiled for choice up there....and people smile at you...!? Its refreshing to pay £12.50 at Thornton for 2 fish and C&R and its a nice place with good variety!
