Not really supposed to be in 'UK Stillwater', but wasn't too sure where else sorry.
I am wondering if any of the Irish lads on here, or possibly some other visitors to Ireland and it's brilliant fishing, would know how Lough Conn is at the moment? I am heading out there a week Thursday (18th May) and will be on Conn 19th, 20th, 21st and 22nd. We are, obviously, hoping for some Mayfly fishing (doesn't everyone?), but if that doesn't happen, then it doesn't really matter as we have back-up plans for the Lough! I have fished there quite a bit over the years, but haven't been out yet this year - if anybody knows how it is, I would be grateful to hear!
Many Thanks.

My friend was on if saturday, gale force winds so it was a day for the wets, they got a lot of small fish and a couple of decent fish, I'd say the fly will probably be a week late this year but you neve know if the weather heats up you might hit it right.

Hey, thanks sooty. That sounds very promising. Fishing wets is great on there anyway, so it doesn't bother me either way really! Just thinkinkg that fishing dry will be easier for my Dad as he will find it easier going (struggling at the moment with his casting etc).
Sounds great, and if you hear anything else, I would be really grateful - if nothing else, it increases the level of anticipation!
Thanks.

Tremendous info The Bear - thank you too! I am going to send you a pm now as you seem to be in the driving seat where these trout are concerned!

Latest from the fisheries board site
There was some good fishing on both Conn and Cullin with many more anglers taking to the water. There were may fly hatching on Cullin but trout had not started to feed on them. Nonetheless, the Albert Berry group had their annual competition on Cullin and 128 rods caught 134 trout over two days with several fish over 2 lbs. and the best weighing 2.75 lbs. The bulk of the catch was taken on Saturday with fishing much slower on Sunday despite favourable conditions. On Conn, the highlight of the week was, undoubtedly, the massive trout of 14.88 lbs. caught by Jim McDonnell, Manulla, while trolling for salmon. The trout (photo attached), one of the biggest ever caught on Conn, was caught on Six Arch Bay. Elsewhere, on Conn, Padraic Traynor had 3 trout for 3.5 lbs., John Burke had 2 for 4 lbs. and Joe Quinn and Michael Monaghan had 8 of which 3 were around 1.5 lbs. each and the rest returned. Mickey Kelly, Dublin, had 5 trout from 1 lb. to 3 lbs. and David Browne had 5 trout for 5 lbs. Anglers fishing with Harry Feeney on Friday and Saturday, in poor conditions, had 3 trout each day and all were returned. Trout were caught on Sooty Olives, Silver Dabblers, Fiery Browns and Golden Olive Bumbles. Over 200 trout, weighing 213 lbs., were recorded on Conn. The may fly hatch has not commenced on Conn, which is always a few weeks later than Cullin, but a few fly were spotted on Bog Bay.

The national was fished in bright sunshine and a near calm so conditions were less than ideal!! Fishing was very slow with 150 anglers geting 20 odd fish, no sign to the mayfly hopefully there will be a few by this weekend

Flippin 'eck - that sounds like hard going. Still, weather has changed, so fingers crossed that it'll be a bit more favourable this weekend!
