This is how I tie klinks, hopefully it will be helpful for some of you.

The first stage is tying the wing post, the way I do it is to loop the post under the hook then wrap first round the post then a little way up the post and dab it with superglue to stiffen it.

Then tie in the thorax material at the eye of the hook

Wrap the thread down to the wing post, then tie in the hackle, concave side towards you. Then carry the thread to where the thorax will finish.

Then wrap the thorax and tie off, at this point tie in a loop of well waxed thread, loop towards the eye of the hook, take four fairly firm wraps over the trailing end of the loop then lift the ends out of the way and wrap the thread to where the body will begin.

Now dub the thread and wrap to where the trailing loop ends are

Pull the trailing ends down over the body and continue wrapping the body up to the thorax

At this point, keeping the thread under tension cut it and pass it threw the loop. Then still keeping the tension on pull on the trailing ends of the loop until the loop and the cut thread passes through the body then snip the waste end away. The wax on the loop will act to seal the thread making a secure knot.

Now turn the hook in the vice so that the wing post is horizontal, reattach the thread and wind up the wing post, tying the hackle down as you go along, remembering to keep the concave side towards you, then wrap the thread back down to just above the thorax

Now wind the hackle one turn under the next until you reach a point just above the thorax, then tie the hackle of and snip the waste and also any stray fibres pointing below the thorax..

Now do a whip finish under the hackle, but before you pull it tight add a little dab of varnish to the loop, that way when you pull the whip finish closed the varnish will be drawn into the thread and you won’t get any on the hackle.

And there you have it, the completed Klinkhammer.
Once you’ve done a few you will see it is much easier to tie than describe.

If you want the fly to sit lower in the water, simply tie the hackle higher up the thorax leaving a bigger gap between the body and the hackle.

You may find it quicker once you've practiced on a few to tie up the wing posts on several hooks before tying the rest of the fly.
I usually tie up about a dozen at a time, then when the glue on the post is dry dress the rest of the fly. You will waste less glue this way too, simply squeeze a couple of drops onto a non porous surface and use your dubbing needle to apply to the post.
